Assessment - Process

THERMOPAP assesses the energy consumption of the papermaker dryers.

The energy balance, specifically developed by Thermopap, allows an increase in quality and drying efficiency of industrial papers.

Following an extensive audit, Thermopap prepares an optimised (air and steam) computer model of the drying process for each machine (1).

This computer simulation is then compared to a set of precise measurements carried out on the existing dryer section (moisture and air velocity, paper and cylinder temperature, steam and air flow) (2 and 3).

An “enthalpic” balance or an overall energy balance for the dryer (air system and thermal recovery included) is then obtained (4).

The following synthesis of this balance allows a precise description of the potential energy losses and savings (5).

A set of technical solutions – for example the installation of a thermo-compressor – will then be proposed to the papermaker by Thermopap (6).

Assessment phases

1. Machine definition following an audit and before modelling

2. Temperature and moisture variation during simulation

3. Condensate flow per cylinder during computer modelling

Définition de la machine

4. Energy balance from computer modelling

5. Summary of the energy consumption and potential energy savings

6. Research and implementation of technical solutions for the dryer (e.g. a thermo-compressor).
